Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator - My Experience
I grabbed this generator to serve as an emergency battery charger. I also need to have a portable power for low power tools that I have without taking too much from my ship's battery tank.

Well, I am very pleased that I did!

You see, my Bosch saber saw won't run through my boat's on board Xantrex inverter even if computers and other 120 volts electronic equipments don't have any problem with it. BUT guess what - the Bosch saber saw runs perfectly from the Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator - it's proof that this generator pumps out true sine wave!

The Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator was shipped without oil (unfortunately), BUT this is not a huge problem at all. I just added the recommended amount with the little spouted oil container provided. This is very handy for our 4 stroke 9.8 HP outboard as well. Along with that, I added gas and gave it a pull. By the third pull, the Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator started and it did without producing any irritating noise. It's way quieter than my good and old Honda 1000 watts portable generator. After that, all it takes is a single pull to get it going!

However, like anything else - generators, computers, etc. the Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator has a minor shortcoming. You see, this generator doesn't have a disptick that allows you to check the unit's oil level.

You have to do it the hard way - you need to get the unit exactly level, take off the screw that holds the back cover, and peep into the oil filler hole. While it is true that it comes with a low oil level automatic shutoff, nobody wants to rely on that just to know the oil level!

Aside from that, though, the Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator is a small BUT amazing unit that could serve you for years - helping you cope during those power outages, when you are holding a tailgating party, camping, and what have you.

In conclusion, I'm recommending it highly!

My Personal Review - The Looks Department
The Honeywell HW7500E Portable Generator is beautiful! It comes with red and metal fuel tank that can hold up to 6.5 gallons of fuel coupled with a fuel gauge as well as metal gas cap. You will also find the black accent as well as the red engine very easy and soothing to the eyes.

When I got the Honeywell HW7500E Portable Generator, I grabbed a Stabil Fuel Stabilizer (thanks to Walmart) that allows me to store gas in the tank. With it, my portable power supply is always ready to go with less gunk build up and easier start up.

Just a tip - I highly recommend using pure synthetic oil and pouring it into a clean disposable plastic cup, then using the cup to pour the oil through the funnel. This does a good job of reducing drips, waste, as well as mess. The last time I checked pouring straight from the oil's container to the funnel threw away about a full quart of oil. The tip above is a surefire oil saver!

Starting Up The Power Generator
Starting and stopping the power generator is a piece of cake - thanks to the plastic cheat sheet numbered from steps 1 through 7...teaching you everything you need to know to get the Honeywell HW7500E Portable Generator up and running.

Coming with a 12v/14Ah sealed led, starting this portable generator with a tractor type battery can be done breezily with a single push of the switch. You can also charge the battery using a smart car battery charger set on the 2A mode for about 6 to 8 hours.

Stopping and turning the generator off is just as easy. Just follow these very simple steps (1) unplug the unit (2) let it run for about 3 minutes or so (3) push the off button, and lastly (4) turn the fuel switch to off. You can find all of these steps in the cheat sheet I mentioned above.

Honeywell HW7500E Portable Generator - My Conclusion
All in all, I would say that this is a fantastic generator for the price of $999.99. Why? Let me name some of my biggest reasons:

(1) It comes with a 3 year warranty - you get 1 year warranty for the parts and labor and 2 years for the parts only.

(2) It's from HoneyWell! It's not from some junkie sort of equipment manufacturer who can't stand by their product (they know it sucks), and would give you only 1 year warranty.

(3) The Honeywell HW7500E Portable Generator is capable of pumping out 7500 watts continuously and have a maximum of 9375 - and it's true! Many low cost portable generators out there have exaggerated wattage and ratings, and their products don't live up to the hype.

3) 7500W continuous, 9375W peak watts (Chinese generators have exaggerated wattage ratings so beware), 4) included free accessories (25 foot L14-30 cable to 4 outlets which costs around $60-100 on Epay and even more locally), 1 quart of oil, cheapy funnel, 12v battery, step by step start/stop cheat sheet, toll-free help line with fast pickup by real Americans, and flat-free wheel kit.

And those are just to name a few!

When you grab the box of you Honeywell HW2000i, you get the portable inverter generator itself, the owner's manual for easy reference and instruction, and everything you need to take advantage of this portable power supply - an oil fill container, spark plug wrench, screwdriver handle, and that's just to name a few.

Another nicety that this package comes along with is a two year warranty that would replace or repair your Honeywell HW2000i portable inverter generator if it's accidentally damaged.

While it all sounds nice, I'm pretty sure you are curious as to how this take-it-anywhere power supply fares. Check out my straightforward review.

A Closer Look At The Unit
First off, let's have a better look at the unit itself. I would say that it's roughly the size of a small suitcase. Now that's a little surprising since I was expecting it to be smaller - 'round about the size of a Honda portable generator. Along with that, this unit is a little louder than Honda (BUT not to the point that it's annoying), though I must say that it's quieter than the old Coleman Powermate generator that I have.

It also comes with a tough orange and red plastic casing that needs a screwdriver to open for you to get hold of the different controls. No worries - the screwdriver is included in the package.

All in all, thumbs up to Honeywell HW2000i portable inverter generator when it comes to the 'build and looks' department. It's hefty BUT very convenient to take along with you thanks to the built in handle, stabilized footings, and more.

Starting It Up And Other Features
Pulls start - it's little disappointing since it's NOT instant, BUT it did fire up quickly by the second pull. The Honeywell HW2000i comes with 2 regular outlets as well as a 12 volt outlet with easy access fuse locations. You will also find the level indicators and efficiency settings placed in convenient spots all over the Honeywell HW2000i portable generator.

Just a reminder though - the fuel pours into top and it could easily splash to the unit's control panel if you are a little sloppy or clumsy. HOWEVER, I think the fuel opening is large enough to make room for errors and you can easily solve this minor problem by using a funnel.

CARB Compliant
The Honeywell HW2000i portable power supply is CARB compliant. It's fairly quiet when you switch to efficiency setting and is more than enough to run even the more delicate electronics. While I haven't tried using it for my refrigerator, stove, etc. since we have different arrangements when camping and holding an outdoor party, I don't see any reason why the Honeywell HW2000i can't handle it.

Bottom Line...
Versatile, fairly quiet, powerful enough - the Honeywell HW2000i is NOT a Honda power generator, BUT it's good enough for my needs. Not to mention it costs way less too!
