Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator - My Experience
I grabbed this generator to serve as an emergency battery charger. I also need to have a portable power for low power tools that I have without taking too much from my ship's battery tank.
Well, I am very pleased that I did!
You see, my Bosch saber saw won't run through my boat's on board Xantrex inverter even if computers and other 120 volts electronic equipments don't have any problem with it. BUT guess what - the Bosch saber saw runs perfectly from the Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator - it's proof that this generator pumps out true sine wave!
The Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator was shipped without oil (unfortunately), BUT this is not a huge problem at all. I just added the recommended amount with the little spouted oil container provided. This is very handy for our 4 stroke 9.8 HP outboard as well. Along with that, I added gas and gave it a pull. By the third pull, the Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator started and it did without producing any irritating noise. It's way quieter than my good and old Honda 1000 watts portable generator. After that, all it takes is a single pull to get it going!
However, like anything else - generators, computers, etc. the Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator has a minor shortcoming. You see, this generator doesn't have a disptick that allows you to check the unit's oil level.
You have to do it the hard way - you need to get the unit exactly level, take off the screw that holds the back cover, and peep into the oil filler hole. While it is true that it comes with a low oil level automatic shutoff, nobody wants to rely on that just to know the oil level!
Aside from that, though, the Honeywell HW1000i Portable Generator is a small BUT amazing unit that could serve you for years - helping you cope during those power outages, when you are holding a tailgating party, camping, and what have you.
In conclusion, I'm recommending it highly!
